What game was this?

SteelDraco

First Post
I've been thinking about a game my roommate and I played in college, and for the life of me, I can't remember what it was called. I was hoping the general knowledge of ENWorld could help.

It was an internet-based game, played in a browser. The basic game was somewhat like chess. Think Archon, but much newer. There were several opposing races. The two I remember clearly were elves and goblins. It was a ladder-based game, played against other players. The different pieces each had different moves, most of which affected a certain region of the board, and did damage to everything in that area. For example, I remember the elf blade-dancer had a move that shot out two diagonal lines of damage, and one that did a whole ton in a straight two-square line vertically or horizontally.

Every time you did anything, the game played a little movie, showing the piece you activated performing some action. The two I remember most clearly are the elf warrior with two swords dancing around, and an elf attack spell that summoned a cloud of bees from inside a forest.

I realize this isn't all that much to go on, but I'm hoping somebody will have some idea of what I'm talking about. I enjoyed the game, but I've lost my hard drive several times since then, so I have NO CLUE where it might have been.

Edit: Oh, this would have been some time in... 2003 or 2004, I suppose.

No, it was considerably more recent than Battle Chess. I don't believe it was ever a commercial game; it was an online game, and I don't really remember it ever getting all that big. I just remember thinking it was quite fun for a while, and then we both stopped playing it.

Kind of a long shot, I suppose, but I thought I'd see if anybody knew what I was talking about.
