I really liked the "first diagonal counts for 2" idea in the other thread.
That is a really good idea -- so long as movement is restricted to ~6 squares on average, it's not abusable.

I voted for Hexes, which are the one true coordinate system.

Look at this poor old man. How can you say NO to him?

How do Hex-gridders deal with edges of the map? Most buildings have straight walls, which is why I use squares.

Has anyone really (fully) integrated the hex-grid into 3.5's combat system? How many house rules are necessary? Any trade-offs? They might be useful out in "natural" environments, thought I don't really see a strong need.

All of your questions are answered in the Eucledian Geometry thread (for building design), the hex grid rules are in the unearthed arcana, or you can take a look at this link [link]http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/hexGrid.htm[/link]

Despite my support for the 1-1-1 option (which will please some of my players), if I was DMing clones of me, I'd be very happy sticking with 1-2-1-2, despite the slight added complexity.

Cheers!

I didn't vote because my option wasn't there.
My write in is: diagonals are 1.5 each.

that would be the second one, since it says "or similar" and 1-2-1-2 ends up essentially the same.

I voted for that, allthough, to be honest, if there was an "I don't care" option I would have chosen that.

I'm starting to see merit in the 1:1 scheme, but part of my brain still refuses to accept it! Maybe it is the true test of whether I am 'in it for the game' as I say I am, or if I am actually a slave to simulation.
