What happened?

"Latherion, you and I can take the fore. We are expecting traps. Give us about 10 feet, then the rest of you. Can someone in the second row carry a light?" says Raven. She will take search checks as she proceeds, keeping her sword and sheild at ready.

OOC: ok so Latharion and Raven step over the log first...who issearching first and when do you start searching?

OOC: Well, presumably there is light and that's a start. Raven is particularly interested in this first 10 foot of passage or so. She'll prod the floor, alert for pits. She'll eye the walls and ceiling for anything unusual. She'll advance slowly. I'll make a search check for the heck of it. 4+7=11. OK. Well there you go...

Raven, you are caught unawares as you step off the log by a large spears that jut out of the ground

Spears to hit, damage (1d20+10=29, 1d8=3, 1d20+10=17, 1d8=6, 1d20+10=14, 1d8=8, 1d20+10=30, 1d8=3, 1d20+10=21, 1d8=4)
critical chancecritical confirmation and crit damage (1d20+10=17, 2d8=7) wow..just narrowly misses the crit
3 of those hit for 3,3 and 4 damage so a total of 10 damage.
The spears fly out of the ground, three of them nailing Raven with a fourth just narrowly missing and one of them just narrowly avoids piercing her through the heart and had ,in fact, pierced her armor to that effect.

the spears remain up right in the ground (ie they do not retract) and Raven is in a world of hurt

[sblock=stulgar] Actively spotting, using low-light vision, you can see that Latharion and Raven are about to be in some trouble as two vaguely humanoid shapes covered in resin are now with in 20 feet of them, waiting at the edge of human vision, somewhat well-hidden(i nat 20'd for you buddy..it was amazing)[/sblock]
