What happens when a Spellthief steals a charm?

Let's say the party encounter someone and suspect they have been charmed by the bad guys. What would happen is the spellthief were to sneak up behind one and slap him upside the head (non-lethal sneak attack). Could he steal away the Charm Person, and would he then be subject to it himself as if it had been cast on him by the original caster?

I don't think he works that way.

I don't believe he can steal spells that HAVE BEEN CAST. He steals what is in your pool. so the wizard who has memorized Charm Person can be stolen from. The guy he charmed can't unless that charmed guy has Charm Person memorized.

I'm not entirely sure. I suggest re-reading the class description.

They can also Steal Spell Effect, and they then gain that effect themselves as if it was cast on them by the original caster. Which got me pondering.

The spellthief in my party recently grabbed the Mage Armour from an enemy mage to general hilarity and high-fiving. Then talk turned to all the other spell effects things he could steal and the subject of charms and dominations came up. Could a high level spellthief with mindblank theoretically take all the dominations from a BBEG vampire's victims, for example?

Or all the nasty torture tricks they could do - get delay poison cast on someone, poison them, then suppress the spell effects for 5 or 10 minutes at a time so they suffer.

Anyway - the question is a non-mind blanked, spellthief steals the charm effect from another. Do they get a save to avoid being charmed themselves? Does it just work? Does it not happen at all?

This actually happened in my Shackled City game. The 2nd adventure in the hardcover (Drakthar's Way) involves a
vampire and his goblin minions, who had been dominated not to reveal his location. The spellthief stole a captured goblin's domination effect temporarily so that the poor goblin could spill his guts. *If* the vampire had known about the switch, it could have sent new commands. As it is, I ruled that the spellthief was Dominated not to tell the location of the vampire, which he didn't know anyway.

What is the text on thwe spell thief? Are you sure he can touch supernatural abilities or spell likes?

no save unless the spell thief abilty is worded the transfer is as the spell is "as if just cast".

They can steal spells out of your head (man), active spell effects, spell-like abilities, energy resistance and spell resistance.

The relevant wording for the active effect (don't want to copy too much) is:

Steal Spell Effect (Su): Beginning at 2nd level, a spellthief can siphon an active spell effect from another creature.

Upon stealing a spell effect, a spellthief gains the stolen effect (and the original creature loses that effect) for 1 minute per class level (or until the spell’s duration expires, whichever comes first).

A spellthief can steal the effect of a spell only if the spell could be cast on him by the original caster.

I read this to say they get it as it currently is, which seems like a 'take the rough with the smooth' situation.
