D&D 5E What houserules do we assume is common in the community?

There is no rule that says you can't add additional components to a spell.
Isn't that the same as saying that there is no rule that says you can't homebrew? If the component is not listed in the spell description, by definition requiring an additional component not listed with the spell is not RAW. Which, of course is fine. RAW is tastier after a bit of cooking.

There are some popular houserules, like handwaving Ammo and carrying capacity, that the D&D community kinda assumes is common enough that if you were to walk into a random table, you could expect not to run the rules RAW.

What are those houserules and what do you think about the idea of houserules so common that you don't even ask your DM/tell your players about it?
I actually wrote a super light ruleset (borrowing from PF2E and the Black hack) to allow for very simple at-table, intuition-like, almost zero bookkeeping to use both of those.

Of course, not caring is always valid! 😀 but it's bothered me for a while.

The point is, whilst the rules say you can use a spellcasting focus in place of a material component if you have that class ability, there is no rule that prevents you from using a spellcasting focus to cast a spell when there is no material component specified. RAW and RAI, you can use a wand of the war mage (and similar) to cast ANY of your spells, not just spells with material components.

I like the idea kd crit fumble on a 1, but only if you have disadvantage. Makes it less common and flavor wise makes jf where truly terrible things happen only when your already in a difficult situation

Nah. A turtle on land is easier to hit than a deer.
Not really a good example for the point you are trying to make:
