What if DR/magic was removed from races/templates?

Question

Lets say we remove DR/magic from templates like half-celestial, or from PRCs(or even the monk!). The DR doesnt do anything at these levels anyway. Would the LA change at all?

Not really. If you use one of the wierd modified systems people brew up I'd reduce it by .5 It mostly seemed like one of those "Look at how hardcore I am, puny NPCs with 1-3 class levels fear me!".

Commoners.

DR /magic is still very good for PCs with these templates. There are tons of monsters out there that don't penetrate /magic. Demons/devils/and golems are 3 I can name right off the bat.

And also pcs can use their resource to the fullest advantage, dispelling a magic sword or disarming it, or even grappling the character their facing to the get the most advantage out of it.

I agree with Stalker0 that the DR is still very helpful. If all you fight are magical equipment-using enemies, your campaign is definitely no the norm.

Would depend on the given template. For you, however, I'd say "No". After all, according to you the DR doesn't do anything at those levels anyway, so removing the DR isn't a meaningful loss :)

Agreed. Question is begging the question. :)

I agree that it's mostly useless but does show it's effectiveness once in a while. A bunch of PCs recently went up against a dragon and the DR 5 that a player had actually came in pretty handy as he was hit quite a few times.

Not unless he receives "Magic Fang"...

Or he is a Young Adult or older (when all MM dragons get DR 5/Magic).

"Some monsters are vulnerable to magic weapons. Any weapon with at least a +1 magical enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls overcomes the damage reduction of these monsters. Such creatures’ natural weapons (but not their attacks with weapons) are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction."
