So much of this is stuff I've never heard of! I want to ask for views on your purchases, but that feels too demanding and also a way to derail the thread, so I won't. Also, I find my capacity for reading and understanding new games is shrinking with age. I stick to manhandling one set of rules at a time, presently its Blades in the Dark. Still one can read the suggestive titles and dream!

Let's be honest. Most people buy new games for impulse reasons. Cool art and nice typography and formating. The way a product looks, which can also include things that look retro or dated, is much more important IMO than the actual content.

Couple cool artwork and formating that resonates with someone having a bad day at work or facing something they want to distract themselves from worrying about...and bingo! You made another sale!

Yes, I speak from experience, but I'd bet money it's the same for most people.

We just had a local brick and mortar store selling SF/Fantasy books and games open up in town...
Lucky! There isn't much I love more than when a new brick-and-mortar game or bookstore opens near me. BTW, the best one I've found over the past 20 years -- no joke -- is located not far away from me in the city of Petaluma, CA. It's called Word Horde Emporium of the Weird and Fantastic (Word Horde Emporium of the Weird & Fantastic | Word Horde Emporium of the Weird & Fantastic).

I swear, if you're a fan of TTRPGs and you ever get a chance to go, make the time for it. On my eternal honor, you will not be disappointed. The owners have preternaturally good instincts when it comes to curating the absolute best (hyperbole intended!) TTRPG, fantasy and sci-fi books and gaming products in the store.

There are quite a few other games stores in this area, but none hold a candle to this one. Every shelf is nothing but great stuff. They don't just carry everything that everyone else does. They even stock great Kickstarter and print-on-demand products. Just super eclectic, quality stuff. Lots of things I've seen people mention here in the forum. Highly, highly recommended to TTRPG fans for a truly joyous experience.

P.S. No, I am not on their payroll and receive no kickbacks. They have no idea I've posted this. I just really like their store!

Ok, only 6 hours away, and my son's home in San Francisco is on the way (about an hour).

Guess I know what side quest spouse and I will be going on next time we visit our kin...

Bought this classic from the Goodman Games booth at Strategicon - Sailors on the Starless Sea. There were a bunch of others I was interested in; but then wasn't sure if I already owned :ROFLMAO:

Probably best for my wallet.
I empathize! I have a bunch of sealed up cardboard boxes in my garage filled with my gaming stuff from 30 years ago.

So much great stuff in there, like the original DnD Basic box set, some old-school TSR modules, a bunch of Palladium games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Robotech, Steve Jackson games including Car Wars, which I believe are in there somewhere too. Also, Gamma World from TSR, about a thousand first-printing Magic cards, along with the first edition of Vampire the Masquerade, dozens of other things.

The problem is, this treasure is burried under mountains of other boxes filled with
ancient tomes about Windows 95 and Lotus 1-2-3 from back when Pluto was still a planet.

My garage is like Mayan ruins now. The boxes are all taped up and guarded by black widows, so I literally have to risk life and limb to go in there. I could be attacked by actual giant spiders! It's my own personal one-shot adventure. Gotta say, I'm afraid. I may not make it out. Pray for me.

We believe in you! Also, it never hurts to have a party member who can take sneak attacks against spiders (aka, hold the can of Raid). Or Armor up with long gloves and long sleeves...
