What is Desert of Desolation and what to expect for figures?

Pretty sure the aforementioned hook is the new mounted figure whatnot, and it may only be a hook from a skirmish perspective.

I don't know anything about the original Desert of Desolation series, but from the cover art of the minis boxes, it looks like there's going be a new mummy, drider and large fire elemental of some kind. Other speculations include a new vrock and gelatinous cube (check out ddm spoilers.

Since it's a desert theme, I wonder if we'll get a medium blue dragon, a new basilisk (though with the release of the greater basilisk in Night Below, probably not), maybe a small or medium earth elemental, dust mephit, and there's just got to be some sphinx in there. Of course, themed sets being what they are, you'll probably get a polar bear, but hey...

Oh and maybe a dire camel ;)

Note that much of what you'll see on DDM Spoilers in these 'in between sets' times is wishful thinking and/or rampant baseless speculation. Much <3 for Greyhaze, but that will always be true this long before a new set, as leaks are much less likely to have happened.

desert

Desert of desolation was initially a set of related modules in the fabled "I" series.

Then it was compiled and sold as part of FR. FR canon has repeatedly tried to ignore this, and IMK you will not find any references to it in FR canon.

That is a real shame IMO. These were REAL good adventures at the time.

I know nothing of minatures. IIRC, the original modules had:

Camels
Dire Rats
Purple worm
Thunder herder
Sandman
Ghoul
Wight
Wraith
'Sand Trapper' (?) ('Dust Digger' is what I was thinking of.)
Dervish
Dervish Cleric
Efretti
Androsphinx
Trapper
'Death From Above' (?) ('Lurker Above' is the monster I had in mind. Thanks kenobi65)
Mimic
Minotaur
Bodak
Mummy
Clay Golem
Shadow
Footpad
Rogue
Mounted Pegasi
Desert Nomads
Large Monstrous Spider
Large Monstrous Scorpion

Trappers were a classically-improbable 1E monster...basically, a living floor that would wrap up and constrict anyone who stepped on it. They were closely related to Lurkers Above, which were pretty much the same thing in ceiling form. My guess here (it's been 20 years since I played the Desert of Desolation series) is that it's a desert variant.

You know, those were goofy as monsters, but they'd make a lot more sense as constructs.

Hmmm ...

I ran the long 2ed version that wrapped the different parts all together. It was my favorite 2ed module. I don't want to give anything away, but it had some of the coolest ideas I've seen in a module. I so hope they redo it as a long 3.5 module.
