D&D 5E What is my best bet for some cheap, decent miniatures?

If you want low cost and a big selection of the basics, look at the Pathfinder Pawns series of cardboard stand ups.

There are other sets that have even more pawns.

For the PC's I just found out about this site a couple days ago and it looks amazing but haven't ordered anything yet. Heroforge https://www.heroforge.com/ it lets you customise to a point a minature.

Wow! These are really cool. I think my "lack of minis" problem has just been solved :-)

Cool stuff also has a big selection

just type orc, goblin, whatever into the search, and you will get lots of options you can buy as singles and sometimes sets.

Ive been buying all my mini's here. They sell singles and their shipping is super cheap (.99 cents to a dollar for most small orders). Plus the more mini's you buy, the higher level discounts you earn (Im at 5% now). I also pre-ordered the Tyrnanny boosters here and the Tiamat mini, which they discounted 25%.

They ship fast too.

Good lord, the heroslayer hydra is $55. I just can't believe how the prices get on some of these things.

Those bad boys are from the last set, and Wizards decided to go with Very Rare as an extra kick in the butt with that set. The Hydra is one of the Very Rares. How rare are they? I hear you asking. I bought 20! Boxes of that set and got 3. 3 in 160 packs. The ratio of that fig to all the others is just absurdly low, as is all the VRs in that set. Ugh. On the plus side, it is a bad ass figure. I totally have mine, and it's really nice. :)

It was a 'Rare Huge', effectively a chase rare. That level of rarity only showed up in 1/3 of boosters in the set IIRC which dramatically increased the secondary market value of those pieces. Top it off with hydras being underrepresented in fantasy figures and it a pretty decent mini in it's own right, those pushed it's value up.

Are World of Warcraft minis on the same scale as these?
I have a few WoW minis and they are about the same size as the "large" minis--effectively four five foot squares on a normal game grid.

So, they are larger than most minis. Most humanoid D&D/Pathfinder minis fit in one five-foot square.

That sounds way too big. Thank you.

Some are sorta close, but many humans will look kinda big when rebased. Ones that look like large monsters work fine for that.

Rebasing them isn't too hard for most figs. CAREFULLY Cut the base off with a X-acto blade or razor saw, Super glue to a 1' base for medium or a 1.5" / 40mm poker chip for large.
