What is the AC of your 20th level character?

I learned a lot from that 10th level AC thread, so now I'm curious about 20th level characters. What's the AC of your 20th level character?

I'm extrapolating up to 20th, since my highest level guys are 16th and 17th, but... my cleric is currently about AC 65 and I don't see that really changing at 20th unless new material is released. My dervish's AC would go up by a few points due to the Dervish AC bonus and Improved Combat Expertise. So if I want to totally sacrifice offense with him he could get up to 76, plus Dodge and Mobility.

Getting a high AC at 20th level isn't really all that hard if you want to put a lot of effort into it. I'd say that while they can get their ACs up that high, they are usually running an AC of about 40-55 for most fights.

My group of players are level 19 so good' nuff. ACs range across the band and vary significantly from round to round. I think the low-man on the AC pole is around AC25, median is somewhere around 30. The fighter has some defensive tricks that can get him up to around 40 but I think the cleric might've topped everyone by hitting 50 at some point (lots and lots of self-buffage).

Only 16th level, but by 20th level the unbuffed AC of my sorceress will be about 25 or maybe 30, depending on whether the bracers of armor +5 will get improved by then and whether there will be an inherent bonus to Dex or maybe an item offering a deflection bonus.

30 is pretty close to 10 effectively, tho. ;)

Buffed the AC will then be more like 50 or so, I suppose. It's currently about 32 with the most common and fairly long duration buffs without Polymorph and 40 with Polymorph.

10 Base
00 size
06 Dex (18 base + gloves of dexterity +4)
05 armor (bracers of armor +5)
05 natural armor (Dragonskin)
02 deflection (Magic Circle against Evil)
04 shield (extended Shield)

When polymorphed into a Stone Giant:

10 Base
-1 size
04 Dex
05 armor (bracers of armor +5)
16 natural armor (11 natural + Dragonskin)
02 deflection (Magic Circle against Evil)
04 shield (extended Shield)

AC 40 + Greater Blink offers very decent protection at this level so far.

Only character of close to that level I've run is a 17th lvl wizard for a one-off game. Unbuffed except for greater mage armor (which he has running 24/7), he's only at AC 23. When buffed without changing form, he's at 38 AC. Buffed and Shapechanged into a pit fiend, I think he's at 67.

In the past, back in 3.0...

I've seen and played characters with ACs in the 60s.

Now, I'm pretty much satisfied with a 30-40 for 20th lvl. Much after that is gravy.

Amusing sidenote: One of my friends made an AC fiend in 3.0... had an AC of 76 or something... but he hit for d6+3 still. lol. Totally useless character... he got critted twice in a row by natural 20s. So much for that dood.

My 18th level melee character has a base 40 AC. By level 20, it will probably in the 45-48 range. This is before temporary modifiers like dodge, haste, combat expertise, and dwarven defensive stance are considered.

The point of AC at these high levels isn't to avoid getting hit, it's to reduce Power Attack damage, and possibly to provide a miss chance on iterative attacks. Attack Bonus sky-rockets past AC development.
