D&D 5E What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

Have you ever stopped to think how often you end up arguing about yourself, your actions, or something personal about you in a thread instead of remaining on topic?

Maybe side discussions about personal behavior shouldnt be public discussions??

It's not just you that does this, but it seems like there is always some sort of domestic squabble happening mixed in with vaguely slightly on topic banter....and franky NOBODY wants to hear it.
I'd be happy if nobody ever made it necessary.

the damage in player mindsets is done & reinforced by the core books & race entry in the phb itself.
I don't think you get to speak for or about "players" other than yourself or that you have personally encountered.

@AcererakTriple6 top right corner of player's handbook page 42. Since you and @Scribe are going in circles on it...
And, like in all previous editions, what's in the PHB does not matter when it comes to specific settings. Want the drow in your setting to be fuchia and worship Zuggtmoy? Go right ahead. In Eberron, for example, drow are different from the way that they are presented in the PHB. Tieflings, too. What's in the PHB is geared towards "stock D&D" (aka, the Forgotten Realms) and is a jumping off point that DMs and players can adhere to or depart from.

HOBGOBLINS!

A whole race of warriors. Not just revering warriors like dwarves but the whole nation is an army.

How does someone not get the appeal of being Army Guy but cranked up to 100? Games Workshop pays their light bills with that appeal alone.
they seem like spartans dreassed as samurai for some reason.

I get the feeling if they where not made as sword fodder for pc they might be interesting but they seem lacking depth what I know of thier mind makes them sound more mad than I am.
I think I never really got the appeal of goblins and frends they do not seem to have much of a purpose of than to die or be bad guys.

The fodder thing really hurts them. Hobgoblins are always taking over forts and castles then getting pushed out.

Hobgoblins are more than samurai spartans. They are a whole race of militaristic warrior who use conquering as a way of life.

They should be threats in basic D&D settings as their butchers, bakers, and farmers are all professionally trained swordsmen, pikemen, and archers.

A player could really play up the "I'm a fighter and a (insert normal job)" as a hobgoblin. Full on chef's outfit with a scimatar and a katana.

My party's hobgoblin necromancer uses a silvered Skull Flail to bash their enemies to death and drain their life, then animating them as undead to serve in their army. They're freaking awesome and need more representation.

I have always wanted a setting with every race in, it is treated like a proper civilization not just glorified bandits
