What is the best mapping tool?

Whether its for drawing worlds or just a dungeon, which is best?

At the moment I'm using an old version of "mapx". I can't even find it online anymore.

Anyone else got some ideas? Links to the developers website and screenshots of it in action would be useful.

The mapping software section is not exhaustive, but it's a good start.

Be aware that the best tool for drawing dungeons will not likely also be the best tool for drawing world-scale maps.

Each person has their own needs for mapping and defferent programs will address them, you just have to find out which is best for your needs. Here are some links, they have demo.
