I know a TPK is not really a desired event (for most DM's). But if you are going to have one, when is the best party level for it to happen?

EDIT: This is in regards to "accidental" TPKs. I'd rather not be thought of as promoting them or purposefully causing one.

20th. The playerws think they are big and bad themselves and tend to be pretty darn arrogant with the kind of power the characters possess. :D

None. A TPK shouldn't happen, unless maybe you are ending a campaign (or starting a Ghostwalk campaign?) and the players would enjoy having their characters killed off. TPKs aren't fun -- for players anyway ;)

As seems to be the case with the majority, I voted for 1st level. A TPK is never good, but the earlier it happens the less attached the players will be to their characters and the less complicated it will be to pick up where they left off.

My own vote is for 1st. Not just because it is simply easier to restart a game at 1st level. But also as the ideal time for the players to learn the lethality level of the game. And then be able to adjust their play accordingly.

Aside: It does seem strange folks would vote for 7th or 9th. Maybe 9th is a throwback to 1E's normal retirement age?

TPK at first level = why bother gaining more levels. IMHOOC

I put in 15th or lower might work, I was trying to strike a balance between acheive something satisfying and not being too high a level.
