What is the longest you've ever played a single PC?

I played a 1e mage that made the transition to 2ed and got to 20th level, then DUAL-classed into a 15th level cleric. I played that character off and on for probably 6 or 7 years, way back in high school.

I played one character from 1 to 30 (though the early epic levels, 21-23 I think, were left out - the DM wanted to have 3 years or so happen "off screen", and since the characters didn't sit on their hands at the time, they did get at least some experience), which took 3 years or so.

I played a mystic theurge from level 1 to level 20. Took almost three years.

Now I've had characters that were in play longer -- technically, I still have a 15th level thief-acrobat from the days of the original release of Temple of Elemental Evil -- but I haven't played the character in years, and before the last time I played the character it had also been years.

Forgot to post the levels for mine. Started as a 2nd level character, got up to 20th level wizard/3rd level fighter using 2e/1e human switch class rules and he's had a few energy drain campaign resets. He's been 1st level in a 3.5 game and gone as high as 17 in 3.5, maxing out eldritch knight.

In 2e/1e he was a fighter who switched to magic user. In 3e he was a ranger/monk/wizard who picked up a home brew prestige class variant of harper mage then loremaster, and in 3.5 conversion he dropped monk and loremaster to become an eldritch knight. In 3.5 resets he has been a gestalt ranger/wizard, an UA barbarian hunter variant instead of ranger with wizard, and again a ranger/wizard.

In Vampire the Masquerade he was a mortal spellcasting vampire hunter NPC. :)

I have two characters that I still play that I have played off and on for 25 years. Balcathor, a human wizard level 35 and Storm, a elven fighter 10 / Rogue 25.

I played both fairly steady for about 10 years and off and on for the past 15 years. Their roles these days is limited to being mentors to new characters and the occasional cameo appearance in some epic adventure.

more DM'ing than playing, though Weevil the gnome wizard lasted 6 years (3rd level to god as game was wound up)

first started ref'ing my home brew in 1992 though it was been a bit on and off until the last three years where its been fortnightly

My oldest and most favorite character is Calamar the Dark.

He was played for a little more than a decade, on and off. He started as a human ranger and made his way up to 9th level and then I duel classed him into Druid. He eventuall attained, through a long trek of XP, the rank of the Grand Heriophant, a 23rd level druid. With no where else to go, he changed careers and went wizard. It was then that he died, in the akward phase of trying to level a 1st level wizard, and was reincarnated into a Drow Elf, thus the title Calamar the Dark. Since he was human and was now an elf, but with little rules on how to handle leveling, the DM ruled he could level as a human, so in the early 90's he finally gained 29th level in wizard. He would be fun to play again, but as you can imagine, he has great resources at his disposel, so I quietly mull over his character sheet from time to time, but never really entertain the idea of playing him any more.

Currently, I have been playing in a friends game for the last three years where I have finally managed to get my character 1 fighter/7 rogue/2 assassin.

The first character saw a lot of play, as like any teenager we played every waking moment we weren't forced to go to school. The second we only play once, sometimes twice a month. Both are fun to play, but it would be nice if the second character would level faster. At this rate he will only be 20th level in another 6 years :(

That would be my current character; Maston Alwas. We started at 1st level a little over 2 1/2 years ago and have gamed mostly weekly. He just hit 26th level.
