What is the most balanced class?

When eyeballing the power level of a new or variant class, saying that it isn't as powerful as a cleric or druid isn't really useful to people who think that clerics and druids are overpowered. Saying that it is more powerful than a fighter isn't really useful to people who think that fighters need a power boost.

So, which do you think is the most balanced class to compare a new class against?

I agree with the barbarian. And perhaps the 3.5 ranger (with new spells available!). The rogue as well.

Psion is actually pretty spot-on for a 'spellcaster'... though don't say that too loudly.

Rogue is a good class for "Make sure that there's some reason to take every level so people don't just jump into a prestige class" ... except 20. In a game with no more than 10%-15% undead and constructs (and an ideal world without fortification armor) their about perfect for balance, too.

Dwarf monk. Even when a summoned fiendish rhino bullrushed him as he was crossing a ropebridge, he kept his balance.

I do think that class would be rather strong. Monk AC bonus, full spellcasting (and druids spellcasting is the most versatile in the game, healing, blasting, utility), ranger bonuses...

And with just 3 Scout levels and one feat you'll get full skirmish damage as well... Nono. This class is not average.

Now that I think about it, I'd love to play a wildelf thingy like that one... good archer, more than average hitpoints (d7 as average), trapfinding, Favored enemy (a bit) and if someone really annoys you, you phone the weather god.
