I consider D&D humans to be a fantasy race just like dwarves and elves and gnomes. So, I wouldn't use "we" to speak of them.

But yeah, I'm a bit tired of the "young race fated to rule" and "humanity's flavor is its blandness" crap. That's why I was rather happy 3e made humans one of the Creator Races of the Forgotten Realms.

Definitely halflings. They always seem to be either kender or hobbits - both massively annoying. Gnomes have lots of annoyance potential but are hardly ever played in our games. I haven't really run into the gully dwarf thing outside the novels, but yeah that would be bad.

Basically I guess my vote is for any 'comedy relief' races.

For one, there aren't many other black or matriarchal evil races - certainly not prominent ones.
Maybe - but how many other, non-evil black or matriarchal races are/were there?

Kender

and Planar Handbook Spikers

and Dwarves, they are a good pack animal and great for mines. I mean brainwash them all, send them down a hole and tell them they are traditional and proud miners and you've got yourself a free labour force. Ignant fools

Sorry, did I misunderstand? I thought you were saying that if there was only one evil race of this type/s, this did not suggest possible 'isms'.

I was saying that, even if only one of the evil races is of this type/s, if there are no non-evil races of the same type/s it *is* still suggestive of 'isms'. (not proof of course!) Even if there are many evil races which are different.

Especially so if most or all other 'types' are represented by both evil and non-evil races (or just non-evil).

My pre-3e background is patchy and there are doubtless early races I'm not aware of, but this is something that has always struck me about the drow.

Not arguing, and recognising this is OT, just wanting to clarify/understand. Won't keep posting about it! Peace and Xmas wishes :)

Humans. They can be black, they can be matriarchal, and they can be non-evil. Therefore, they probably can be all that at the same time. :p

BTW, the dark elves' skin color is a black no human skin can pretend to. Black humans are dark brown. Drow are dark marineblue -- the color of night. Is that racism against the Smurfs? You decide.

BTW-bis, for those who still want to approximate D&D fantasy races with real world human ethnies based on approximative skin color, what would you say if there was a race whose skin color was "dark tan to woody brown" and whose alignment was "most often good"?

I too would vote hands down for Kender although tinker gnomes are a close 2nd but given the poll as written I voted for gnomes...down with the dirty old men in pointed red hats
