What is this Oathbound I keep hearing about?

, and within each focus you have to learn the abilities in order (you must evolve Barked Creature before you evolve Photosynthesizing Creature).

They kept the tight chains? Drat. That's one of the things I commented on in playtest. For some of the chains it makes sense (bark before photosynnthesis), but I see no reason why, for instance, my halfling has to grow fur and fangs before a tail.

Hm...the "spending" XP is going to be wonky with me, I know...

"So, you're level 4...here's a CR 4 encounter and...oh....I forgot about the 10,000 XP you invested in a race that lets you eat monsters....uh...well....um....

Alright, you all die. New campign!"

:)

I could and probably will change it to a "you gain this much XP, you can choose this ability," but it'll be wierd, too...

This is a guess, but I reckon that you can't spend exp that would allow you to drop a level, Just like Item creation and certain high level spells.

A bigger problem would be keeping track of just how powerful a character has become. You might be only 5th level, but you could have spent 6,000 exp or more on mutations.

Templates can add to the ECL of a character, I hope that some of these mutations do as well.

Weather one is buying abilities by spending XP or building magic items and spending XP, the DM must make sure he is challenging the players. Both will keep the level a little low, but can really add a good deal of power. I would consider this as advanced feature in a d20 game and would not recomend to everybody.

Just picked the book up tonight on the way to my saterday game and it looks, looks really cool. The races and prestige races are real unique. At a glance it appears to be money well spent. We'll see if i feal that way after reading through it.

Free shipping worldwide? I'm stunned...

Let's go for it, Will!

:D I knew you would say that ;). I am incredibly glad that I held off on a few Bastion stuff I wanted to get. Now I can add Oathbound to the list and get them all shipped free internationally *happy* *happy*. I just have to wait until my Amex bill comes in to find out how much I can blow. (I hope the wife doesn't read this ;))
