What is your cut off point for MSRP?

I'm not sure whether we'll see another price bump any time soon: If reaper manages to get a hold in the painted plastic sector, Wizards will suddenly have some serious competition.

A case cost me 106 with free shipping.

I pay €108.5, which translates to something like $1.50 per figure (but RPG stuff's generally more expensive here, since they have to get the kit over the ocean)

The funny thing is: With the new supplier, I actually pay less now than I paid with the old supplier back when the boosters still cost 13 quid.

And that's the highest priced figure out there.

Nope, Drizzt is. This might change once we get a Drizzt in the next Icon set, but right now, you'll have to pay more than 50 quid for a Drizzt.

Judging from the responses, DDM must be the least successful incarnation of D&D ever. Only a couple of us have bought miniatures in 3 years! I would never know things like this if it weren't for EN World. Truly its collective finger is trained on the pulse of the industry.

:p

If you can believe the Wizards people, DDM is doing quite well.

Of course. And at night, it's colder than outside. Coke tastes better than drinking out of the bottle, too. Blue is the new radio! :p

Kae'Yoss - why do you keep referring to the prices in "quid" (i.e. Pound Sterling)? Since you are from Germany, don't you pay for most your minis in Euros? Even then, it would be more logical to convert the values to US Dollars, since that's what most people here are familiar with. I mean, I could express my own expenses in Serbian Dinars, but I very much doubt anybody here knows the going exchange rate...

I don't use "quid" meaning "pound sterling". I use "quid" meaning "monetary units". Until the Brits show me that they have patented the term quid, I'm nicking it.

I pay for everything in Euros. But the confusion would be bigger if I said "I'm paying 100 tacken for my stuff."

Their problem, not mine. :p

I think from now on I'm going to use the term "bucks" to mean monetary units, in general, but I'll often be talking about Yen, in particular. So if I say I got pizza delivered and it only cost me a couple thousand bucks, you guys'll know what I mean. And if it confuses you, that's tough. :p

Don't worry. I'm still spending enough on the minis to make up for at least four or five other people in this thread :heh:

Yeah, i've done that too. But i think the Reaper minis will put a serious crunch on the monopoly Wizards has with this plasticrack thing. They won't be able to keep jacking the price up incrementally with every set. I'm just hoping that the quality of the Reaper figs puts wotc to shame.

Actually, I'd say it's only been a year for most people, not three; they didn't hit the 15.00 price point until now. To be honest, $13.00 was getting too high for me as it was.

That also doesn't stop other people from buying and giving them to me when they don't want them anymore. In the past six months I've had more people GIVE me minis than I've bought myself! :) I've been spending on Heroscape, to get anywhere from six to eight minis for $10.00 a pop, in other genres than D&D fantasy.

If I buy D&D Minis in the future, it's going to be maybe one box a quarter, if that. There is such a thing as a price point that kills the golden goose. Whether they've reached it yet, we'll see. For two boxes of minis, I can get the latest D&D hardcover, and that's a no-brainer for me, because I can always go back to counters...

In fact, thinking back just now, I'm betting that Reaper's announcement of the plastic figures for $2 per medium figure, and about $4 for larges (near as I can tell) is what prompted them to announce the price change. They can get away with charging more if the Reaper minis already cost that amount... clever! And they still have the edge on large figures!

Reaper only announced their plans to get into the PP market on 2007/03/01, and prices weren't up before 2007/03/05. The booster price increase came into effect even before Bloodwar, the announcement was in Oktober 2006 or earlier.

I don't think that Wizards reacted to any knowledge about Reaper's plans here. And I wouldn't think that they'd increase their price as a reaction to new competition.

My first pack arrived as part of an Amazon shipment last night. Opening it up, I found I was pretty disapointed. The Marid was kind of cool, a few others were okay, but the Devourer as my rare didn't impress me. Even with the price per box, I had planned to pick up at least a few more, but looking again at the list, there isn't a whole lot I want, and a lot that I don't want in bulk. And there are just too many rares that I really don't want.

So, I think that's the only Unhallowed box I'm buying. I'll ebay the two rares I really want (Large Black Dragon to complete my black dragon collection, and the virtuous charger because it looks neat), and maybe I'll ebay the dire wolf so I have another large wolf besides my winter. Even if I could go to the LFGS and draw those two rares from the first two boxes I buy, I think I'll still be spending about the same amount, and this way I don't end up with a bunch of chaff.

The next expansion? I'll have to see what's in it before I determine how much I'm willing to spend.

Just so you know, the word quid has three commonly accepted definitions:
  1. as part of the phrase quid pro quo meaning getting something usually in exchange for a promise to do something else.
  2. a cut, or portion (usually used with tobacco)
  3. as a slang word for one pound sterling.
Using quid when referring to currency other than the pound is being (in my highly personal opinion) deliberately confusing. Just for the record, the currency definition goes back to the 17th century.

Until someone pointed out that you were using it for some other meaning, I assumed you were referring to prices in pounds.
