The Red is the true classic, but i always prefer things to be different, so voted for Blue, that said i loved the Purple dragon that was in Dragon in the mid-late 90's, the one that breathed a plasma beam ~ which i always pictured (and would have described it as such had i used it) as being like the particle beam used by the big Shadow vessels on Babylon 5

Call me a traditionalist, but it has to be Red for me - the fire breathing wyrm!

Put the ] around the word red and then type Red between the ][.

However I opt for the blue version, I like the picture in the MM and I really like the colour.

My favorite would be the deep dragon (evil shapechanging purple dragon that lives in the underdark). I've had some good experiences running these guys against various groups of players. Of the standard fab five, black is my favorite. I like the swampy thing, and their hide makes such good armor for bad guys.

Blues, cause they breathe lightning! And they're smart and calculating, but lightning people!

Reds and Blacks are pretty cool too.

What are the characteristics on the non-standard chromatics, and where have they been detailed?
The Missing Dragons appeared in Dragon 65 and again in 248.

Yellows are salt dragons, they live in areas saturated with salt and have a sodium chloride breath weapon that blinds and causes horrible pain. Just incredibly nasty creatures.

Oranges are sodium dragons, they inhabit hot tropical jungles and have a liquid breath weapon which ignites after contact with air, but also explodes if crafty adventurers try to wash it off before it ignites.

Purples are energy dragons, they live on the plains and have a breath weapon of pure energy, sort of an amalgamation of the destructive power of reds and blues, which can be a cone, a half strength cloud or a tiny beam that can sever limbs and prevent natural healing like a miniature sphere of annihilation.

I don't think anything's been done with them in 3E, they're a Dragon magazine baby and we can only hope they see fit to update them there.
