Planescape closely followed by Greyhawk pre-3e (cause this "3E Core Setting" GH is a joke compared to the old one)

Edit: Deleted the nonsense

Forgotten Realms, especially since 3E came along, as the villains aren't treated like jokes anymore. The Meeting of the Archmages features in Dragon had a lot to answer for imho. Having Elminster and Mordenkainen sit around and joke about the Zhentarim, cos yeah, it's really funny to laugh about people who enslave, murder, blackmail, extort and steal as a daily routine. Love the world Ed Greenwood created, but he is far from the best writer who has developed it.

Ravenloft, was very impressive before 3E came along, and more so now with the much needed Gazeteers fleshing out the domains (though apparently theres been some kind of argument between the developers and the writers of that series and annoying we're not likely to see more of them).

Al-Qadim, had the most consistent level of development on it, even though it was a limited product line. Not a dud book that I can point too, and the Ruined Kingdoms box just rocks, especially the uber-bitch Tisan Balshareska!

what about Kara-Tur, Maztica and Red Steel? okay i wouldnt vote for any of those but everything else has been mentioned..

i voted Planescape and Birthright.. tho infact i could happily run games in all of those listed, plus Mystara and Iron Kingdoms

Spelljammer.

I liked some aspects of Dark Sun, Eberron, Dragonlance and the Realms, but 'Jammer was where it was at.

Otherwise, I'll stick to homebrews, homebrews based off other products, d20 Modern, Conan, OGL Steampunk and the Iron Kingdoms.

Greyhawk is my fave for reasons practical and sentimental. It's the one I know the best, the one with my favorite feel within the D&D worlds (Hyboria and Middle Earth both have better -- and different -- feels, but neither one has room for magic missiles or kobolds), and let's face it, is as classic as you can get as game worlds go.

I was never that keen on Forgotten Realms until I picked up the Silver Marches book ... I found a lot in there to like, however, so I may give FR a try with my next campaign.

Huh? Care to elaborate??

It is my understanding that, faced with the prospect of litigation from Kenzer & Co. for republishing their comic without permission, WOTC granted them permission to use the D&D logo and content that is not available to other companies.

Thus, to claim Kalamar is an official D&D setting without a caveat is facetious at best.
