While I love Deadlands, I discount it from my thought process here because of its strong fantasy elements. I agree that A&8s is pretty too look at, and I like the D20ness of Sidewinder Recoiled and even D20 Wild West from Mongoose, but teh wild west game that tops them all (for me) is Boot Hill 3E.

Deadlands all the way. While I prefer Classic, I gotta admit that Reloaded/Savage Worlds is way simpler.

As for Deadlands d20...ugh. Don't get me started.

I'll agree with others and say Deadlands.

In terms of d20 systems...I dislike d20 systems for the Wild West in general. d20 systems, with their cumulative hit points doesn't make a good Wild West game for me.

I liked Boot Hill 3rd Ed as well.

Aces & Eights looks interesting, if very dense.

Deadlands- Classic or Reloaded. Classic is fairly rules heavy, while Reloaded is rules-medium (it uses Savage Worlds). I've played and run eight Deadlands games over the years since it came out, and its always been an awesome game.

Aces and Eights is great too for a very gritty, realistic old west. The book is beautiful, and has extensive essays on lots of subjects. I'd highly recommend it too if you like very rules-heavy games.

Now Deadlands D20- its a pile of dogcrap. And it pains me to say that since I love almost everything Pinnacle has done, but D20 system does that sort of game VERY poorly.

Boot Hill. I pulled it out and ran it for my girlfriend a few weeks ago -- she really dug it and asked for more.

Like most brand-new players I know, she likes the old stuff more than newer stuff -- tried 3E D&D, e.g., and it really turned her off.
