What is your favourite part of TTRPGing?

I am curious about what draws people to the gaming table? For some it is roleplaying, other mechanics and for me it is being creative. Whether it is as the GM and story teller, or as a player and creating spells or tech. How about you? What is the draw for you?

For me it's multiple hobbies in one.

I really enjoy the GMing part. It's a great creative exutory. It meshes well with my other interests (reading, history, game development, etc) where I get cross-inspiration. Once I hit the table, it's very satisfying to me to try to paint a vivid world, make memorable character and throw some curveballs to my players. I'm a designer through and through and TTRPG are amazing in their short loop from designing something to having it played.

As for the actual game, I enjoy having the players surprise me. To have the dice and random aspect present unexpected events. I enjoy the slow transition from just stat blocks and notes and five people around a table to having an actual living story that stays in your head after. It becomes real through the magic circle.

All of the above. :)

I love deep RP, crafting characters, their stories, solving challenges, experiencing other worlds, playing through other experiences, going where I might not be able to go in my everyday world. I love the tactical aspects of games, the puzzles, the "love it when a plan comes together." I love the mechanics, the math, the design beauty therein. I love being creative, I love the acting, I love the collaboration, I love the camaraderie, I love the life-long stories created, and all the fun of hanging out with friends aligned together towards active engagement.

RPGs do not just tickle one part of my brain / only scratch one itch -- that they encompass so many different aspects is what has me delight in this hobby for 40 years.

I like the collaborative storytelling creation part. While I can come up with some okay stuff on my own, it's mediocre at best. However, gather a few others with mid-level imaginations like mine and wow what a difference it makes! I also do the whole Emergent Play thing when I GM so no matter what side of the screen I'm on, the story is always way different than I thought it might be!

Completely agree!

References to Monty Python movies and a plethora of terrible flicks from the '70's and '80's. You know, the classics like I'm Gonna Git You Sucka and Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death.

That, and rolling dice.
