Interesting that no one has voted 15th-20th yet. My experience of 1st ed AD&D at those levels was that the PCs tended to dominate their surroundings and there were few good challenges - after all 'Queen of the Demonweb Pits' was for 10th-12th level! - but 3e is specifically intended to be playable at all levels.

I think I'd like to play 15th-20th, but I've never actually done that (or anything beyond it). So I voted 9-14, where I've had a lot of fun with various characters.

I like third. It is just wherer the players are strong enough to have confidence in a fight, but weak enough that they will think before they act... it is a lot better than a lvl 16 group that jumps into a fight "knowing" that they will win.

4th-8th, because characters begin to be a bit powerful but they still fear an orc warband :)

IMHO, high levels are a bit boring, anything higher than 10th-11th is too powerful for my standard game. YMMV, of course.

I don't think it's so much that 16th level characters "know" they will win, so much as they know that they have the resources to escape or recover from defeat much more easily.

I voted 15-20 but that is as high as I've played. I think it will be even more interesting to play beyond that. Hopefully, I'll get to find out soon.

IME, at the higher levels, there are so many more options. Good planning and teamwork can make a tremendous difference. Even more so than at lower levels.

I was thinking about asking this exact same question yesterday. Anyway, I selected 4-8. Although, I think all the levels from first to 8 or so are pretty enjoyable to play or GM. I'm not too crazy about levels in the teens or higher, that's usually when it is time to switch GMs and roll up new 1st level characters.

Strange that almost no one (except Upper Krust) favours the over-20th levels yet; will this change when the official Epic Rules comes out?

Anyway I get the impression from the poll so far that most people like to see the PCs rise rapidly to the mid-levels, but there's mixed feelings about the desirability of playing up above 9th, and play in the high teens is surprisingly rare.

Hi Simon! :)

I'm not that surprised. Especially considering virtually no one playing 3rd Ed. has had the opportunity to play above 20th-level yet, let alone deity level play.

I bet if you have this same thread next year many more will have tried and enjoyed bothe Epic and Immortal Level play.

Maybe I'll get some of the people from the IH thread to stop by! ;)

That's exactly the reason I voted 15-20. I anticipate I will enjoy the game even more at epic (and beyond) levels but having never played beyond 20 (even in 1st and 2nd edition), I can't honestly vote that way. :)
