D&D (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

Honestly, there are so many genre's that are lacking I'd sigh be happy for a D20 5E style version. Like Mass Effect. Why is there not an official Mass Effect RPG?

I love Shadowrun but god do I hate it's system. The Anarchy version is the way to go but it lacks a lot.

a NEW WHEEL OF TIME RPG. Why is this not a thing yet?

And on and on

This is one of those threads where most people just answer the subject instead of reading the OP, isn't it?

I have said several times in the past 5e is not ready for no-fantasy genres. Here WotC would need to publish a 20 Modern 2.0. And the power balance would be a hell for the game designers.

And a good setting needs a great variety of enemy factions. Star Wars is very popular but there is only two factions, while in Star Trek there are different groups of enemy factions.

I confess some time I tried to imagine some mash-up of sci-fi franchises within Spelljammer setting.

Conan the barbarian will be public domain in 2028.

I don't advice IPs where characters have a different power scale style jumping on the roofs or breaking walls with their fists. I could give examples of isekai where the main character is broken or OP even in the first episode for D&D standars

I don't like the "only-human" franchises, or where there is only an enemy faction, or only the heroic group solve all the troubles, without space for others, those franchises with a good plot but a bad worldbuilding.

* I would bet for Warcraft. Here Blizzard would earn brand power for the IP.

* My favorite videogame franchise is "Fortnite: Save the World" (the original tower defense, not the superfamous Battle Royal).

Bollywood. I mean there are some serious Fantasy style movies and all that have come out of the India cinema.

Indeed,

Some of the way-over-the-top clips of Indian action-fantasy cinema that I’ve seen would fit remarkably well under a 5e rule frame.

Don’t know enough about Indian films to speak of IPs proper though

The hallmark feature of D&D as a rule set is the progression model. That type of progression does not alignment well with established IPs. We didn't see Private America develop into Captain America, we saw him come out essentially fully baked.

To that end: None. Design game systems that serve the IP. Don't cram it into a system not designed for it.

I think they should try making Runeterra, the world of Arcane and League of Legends, as a 5e setting.
I believe they tried this once back when DDB was owned by Fandom (or maybe Curse?) It was called Legends of Runeterra: Dark Tides of Bilgewater.

I remember reading it before it got yanked down for some license grievance. Had a little setting information and a short adventure too.

I found this unofficial Star Wars setting for 5E a while ago. My understanding was it was a fan project that's been ongoing for several years.
Star Wars 5e
Star Wars 5e

The people who produced it also have a Mass Effect 5E conversion.
That's what I meant when I said "another" 5e Star Wars, but that's just because I like content, not because there's anything wrong with that system. It's good stuff.
