D&D (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

I think you are too stringent in your assessment of the broader applicability of level based advancement. I don't care to convince you otherwise, but if I did I would point you to about 1000000 video games and CRPGs than manage it outside of D&D clones.
I did specify D&D's class system.

It's kind of funny. I saw this thread and like some threads do, it really got me thinking. And over time, I decided I can't think of a single IP I'd like to see drawn into the 5E world. I just saw the movie Legend last night (after watching it on VHS about 100 times) and it definitely would work as a 5E setting. But is that exciting? Would I be picking that up? Probably not, except for as a source of lore.

And that frustrated me because I don't think I've ever thought that way, even during the 4E days when there were far fewer IPs that would be appropriate to have the system explore.
Licensed RPGs are a great source of lore. That's mostly what I've used them for historically.

I'd love a more narratively-focused Star Wars RPG; FFG didn't do it for me and SW5e is way more crunchy than I like my 5e to be. I honestly don't think 5e would be a great fit at all but that's probably what we're going to get if we're getting anything new anytime soon. My dream would be a licensed PbtA Star Wars but sometimes we don't get to have nice things.

Not a traditional RPG, but I highly recommend Notorious, an amazing solo RPG. Doing a solo game of it here.

Disney would likely figure they couldn't get enough profit off a licensed RPG that doesn't use 5e rules to be worth their effort managing it. Even the Marvel game is functionally in-house.

That being said, it would be a great homebrew project for someone to post on Reddit or whatever.
