D&D 5E What makes the Lucky feat so good?

Really? That's not how I read it, though I do see how you can read it that way. I read it as you roll with disadvantage and get 16 & 3 so the result is 3. You then use Lucky to re-roll that and get 2. Oh well...

i would have ruled it to allow you to reroll either one of the disadvantage dice and then keep the higher of that one die - with disadvantage then applying.

however, when it specifically went to sage they responded pretty clearly that RAW it keep any one of the three but RAI it could be different if the Gm wanted it - i think they said it would be reasonable to roll disad - keep lowest of that then apply luck to that one die and keep whichever.

So a lot depends on whether ot not your game is locked into RAW or not - either way - it should likely be brought up session zero as to how it will be ruled at a given table if feats are allowed.
