Amateur scrabble, often.
Amateur chess, rarely.

But yeh I particularly like scrabble. Are there any other commercial word games that are any good, btw?

Maybe if I tried harder, I could be a professional amateur! ;)

iblis, do you play much Boggle? I love me some Boggle. The rules we use:
* Come up with a fake word, and lose a point.
* Words have to be at least four letters, or five letters if we're playing SuperBoggle (a 5x5 grid instead of a 4x4 grid).
* No simple plurals or past tenses or other gooberish ways of duplicating a word. You can do "coat," but not "coats" or "coated." EXCEPTION: you can do "cats," since "cat" isn't an acceptable word (being too short).
* Don't use the timer; just go until all players are sick of it.

Another fun word game: Word Thief. You may have to modify the rules a bit, but it's really fun. (We doubled the bonuses you get for long words in order to encourage them).

Another fun game:
1) Place all the Scrabble tiles face-down.
2) Take turns going around and flipping a tile face-up.
3) As soon as you see a combination of face-up tiles that can make a word, say the word and collect the tiles, placing the word in front of you. This is a first-person-who-shouts-it-out situation.
4) You can steal someone else's word by adding one of the letters in the face-up pool to it. For example, you've got the word "thing" in front of me. A "K" comes face-up, and I shout out, "Knight!" and steal your word, adding the K to it and claiming it as my own.
5) Whoever's got the most tiles at the end of the game wins.

Ooooh... I like that. I'm going to try to get my friends to try that.

And I like your Boggle varient too.
