What old books do you still own? The first OD&D box anyone?

I still have a fair amount of 1e material, but I don't think I still have anything from before that. (I started on the Red Box, and I used to have any number of cool indepently-produced things from the early days, such as the Book of Swords.)

I gave away my old 1e collection years ago and sold my 2e stuff a few years back as well. I recently got my hands on some old AD&D 1e books (MMI, MMII, DMG, PHB, UA) and a buddy of mine gave me his 2e core rules after switching to another system altogether (HARP, if I recall). I never could bring myself to sell off my old moldvay basic set or my expert set. I would never, ever get rid of my rules cyclopedia, it is my favorite all-in-one-book system, period. I have recently begun to collect PDFs of the old modules that I wish I had never gotten rid of, but no longer have print versions of.

I sold all of my 1E and older stuff when I was about 17. This was at a time in my life when I assumed that becoming an adult meant I had to put aside childish things. Boy was I wrong. :) Anyway, my "collection" really starts with 2E and with a couple of things slightly older than that (original FR set among them).

Well, as I observed my father's life, I made my assumptions about adulthood from that. He worked constantly (he was a minister, which meant he had to have other jobs too to help support the family, but he didn't really have marketable skills so he did things like deliver newspapers and sell vacuum cleaners) and I never saw him do things that I considered to be fun. It was only years later that I realized that a) he was seriously sleep-deprived much of the time, probably to a medically dangerous level, and b) he did in fact do some fun things (he was artistic and liked to draw and carve wood, but I didn't consider that "fun").

And it was even later that I found that even with a full-time job, I could have plenty of time to do fun things. I'd just assumed my adulthood would be full of me scrambling to get by, like my parents did, with no time for myself. (A key difference between me and my parents is that I have no children -- that leaves me lots of free time as well). I'm glad I was wrong -- Eric loves him some D&D. :)

That makes two of us! For you it's also cool that your wife is supportive of your hobby as well. My girlfriend is supportive of my hobby (although she does not play) which makes life a lot easier for me too! I've gotta have that D&D time, even though it's only 1 session every other saturday. :)

tons of old stuff

everything ever published for lankhmar and greyhawk (bith 1e and 2e, including the modules).

everything for basic/expert/etc... except for a few of the modules.

all of the 1e hardbacks and the core 3 2e hardbacks

misc top secret, gamma world, star frontiers, traveller, old merp, tunnels and trolls. yeah, I have a ton of stuff.

I have had a standing rule for about 10 years if I have not used something in the last year and a half it gets sold. I have a few regrets, but not as many as you might think. So, yeah, I pretty much owned all of the old stuff at one time, but it all went to the auction block.

I have/still have (off the top of my head):

Basic D&D Boxed set (gray box with red dragon)
25th Anniversary Starter box
1E PHB, DMG, MM, MMII, FF, UA, Greyhawk Adventures, Wilderness Survival Guide, Dungeoneers Survival Guide
2E Creature Compendiums (2 binders plus several supplements)
2E PHB, DMG
Expert and Companion set books, no boxes
World of Greyhawk boxed set, City of Greyhawk boxed set
Most supplements and adventures from 1E, Basic and Expert, several Companion adventures and some 2E supplements and "adventures."

I recently picked up the Basic box, a 1E DMG and the 2E core books for a total of about $12 during trips to Wisconsin to visit my wife's family. I stop a every Goodwill store I pass in Wisconsin and buy all of their D&D items. This is the first year since 2000 that we haven't gone during the summer.
