Bard
Druid
Shaman

Deva

The divine classes didn't impress me (from the previews).
I don't like strikers in general and seeing the sorcerer being made into one kinda disappointed me.

The description they gave about Devas on the FRPG got me quite interested.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic here or not, but martial controllers absolutely make sense. Artillery-based martial classes that strike multiple foes, inflict status conditons and high defensive powers are entirely reasonable.

Okay, martial controllers don't make sense in any WotC D&D setting. If you've got effective man-portable artillery, then personal firearms are common. If your artillery is non-man-portable, then you've got a character that doesn't work in a D&D party. If you're playing 4e Modern, or maybe even 4e Iron Kingdoms, then you can have your martial controller.

A non-technological/magical equivalent would be any archer (hello volley), a minion-based guildmaster (think of any number of villains and his droogs in any film), a skilled crossbowman that uses cover to unleash precise, status-inducing effects (aka a sniper), a swordsman who's skills include striking multiple foes toe-to-toe (reference any sword and sorcery movie), a daggermaster, a harrier-type character who can strike multiple foes at once with his extreme bouts of movement, an arena slave fighter who takes on multiple foes at once (Spartacus), the list goes on.

Per the rules, a controller can hit multiple foes for low damage at once (thus "controlling them"), have great self-defensive "buffs" and inflict status conditions with alpha strike-related attacks. A martial controller is easily realized in any setting.

just about all the classes...and the gnome.

I am a little worried about phb2 classes outshining phb1 classes.

I think that since the classes are so well-defined, it will mitigate any potential problems, save perhaps the wizard and maybe, maybe the warlock (given the way people reacted to the sorcerer). However, I think that Dragon and more importantly, Arcane Power will do more than compensate.
