What scale of changes and changes themselves would you find acceptable?

What scale of changes would you find acceptable in 4E?

complete change. change everything back to OD&D(1974)

Sad to say, this would probably not work too well...but it would be nice if they RE-RELEASED OD&D(1974) as D&D Classic so those who wish to could buy it.

Moderate or large changes. Anything less and I question the need for a new edition. Anything more and I question whether it is still D&D :)

The level of change we saw from 2e to 3e would be at the high end of suitable. From 3e to 3.5 is not enough.

It's a minor thing, but I'd like to see more DMs open to the idea of swapping ability score modifiers for certain checks.
I already do this. In order for characters to notice that a certain location was a perfect spot for someone to watch the goings-on of a castle without being spotted, I had them roll Wis + ranks in Hide.

Personally I'd love to see the whole game become a 'Feats and Skills' set up where 'Class Archetypes' are developed based on Feat Choices (which can be modified on the fly) and where Saves, Combat, Magic and Movement all work like skills. Oh also need to add Talent Trees (Class, Racial and 'Special' (eg Bloodline)) which allow unlimited custimisation of characters. Prestige Classes become a 'Packagre of Talents'

I would so buy that in an instant.
I'm currently trying to modify d20 Modern for fantasy (with the aid of Classically Modern), this would be exactly what I'm after.

II. Classes
1. More flexability and customizaton
a. a) six generic classes (3 from UA + 3 hybrid classes (expert/warrior, expert/adept, and warrior/adept); or
b) make the classes more customizable by taking a d20Modern approach (but not basing the classes on ability scores)

See above. A perfect combination with generic classes and eveything else being feats/talents.
I wish, I wish I wish.

This thread is great. If not for anything else, then as inspiration for my own homebrew system tweaks :)
