Hiya all. This is my first post...ever and I just created this account so I could respond.
I'm in this game so all your answers are relevant to me. I'm also the one who suggested that we not use all 2 million gold. Mostly because I thought we'd either go too overboard or that we'd need the gold later. Ok, so 250k is already overboard for 4th level characters... but it's better than 500k!
A couple of points to mention:
1- If we don't succeed all magic will end, everywhere and permanently! The DM's setting is the PRIME Prime material plane, "the heart of the multi-verse", a home brew world.
2- We've been in this world setting before and we ALWAYS end up in non-level-appropriate situations. So often in fact that it's a standing joke. (the DM was nearly banded from ever running again)
3- Along with FoxWander's Wizard/Warmage we have Me, a Swordsage/Cleric and a Dread Necromancer (who claims to be neutral). Once a day I get the HP of a 20th lvl fighter and the Necromancer can animate the dead of an entire port town. (he's still neutral).
Now onto some of the previous posts:
-The Robe of the Archmagi is less effective than a Mithral Chain shirt with similar enchantments for a Warmage.
-The money we found was in a chest... inside a home brew magical box with an extra-dimensional space that measures 250' square! We can build a 10 story luxury tower inside that badboy and still have room to spare. Just add a bottle of air and we're set. So a Daern's Instant Fortress seems less useful as you need enough space to open it up. My alternative was a rope with a 10 hour "rope trick" enchantment on it. (usable 1/day to keep the cost down) for only 7,000gp. Of course we don't want to go opening up the magical box while in it.
-"Hire Paladins": I'm afraid they might take exception to the Dread Necro.
-Ring of Wishes... from my experiences, wishes never solved anything. They just cause more troubles. I don't think the DM will let us get a ring of wishes anyway. A good try though.
-Iron Golem: FoxWander once showed me a golem or construct that looks like a suit of armor but it's attack has a 12-20 crit range. I don't remember what it was called, or what book it was from but it would get my vote for a possible body guard.
Thanks for letting me rant and keep the ideas coming. You guys are great!
