D&D 5E What should a hangover do in 5e?

I feel like a level of exhaustion is too severe for a hangover, but is there anything more mild than that?

How would you mechanically model a hangover of varying intensity?

I dunno, I think a failure to sleep for a full night is probably equal in "penalty" to being severely hung-over. And being hung over is curable and doesn't last all day.

72 hours for 40+?!

You're not 40+, are you. :P

BTW, I'm about to be 40, and I've never had a single hangover (other than very mild headache) despite some nights of heavy drinking (alcohol is not my drug of choice, though). Sometimes it's just genetics. I'd say let them do a con check, and if they fail, they have disadvantage on ability checks for the first half of the day.

One level of exhaustion seems apt. Harsh, but so is a nasty hangover.

Maybe just reduced benefits for a long rest and save vs a level of exhaustion.

As someone who regularly skips sleep, I can tell you that the penalty for that is basically nothing. It doesn't really seem to be a problem until at least a full 24 hours, and usually not until 36 IME.
