D&D 5E What single new class would you like to see?

There's already one in the game. The Way of Shadows monk is exactly what a fantasy ninja should be, and even explicitly lists "ninja" as one of the various other terms by which members of that subclass are called. :)

I want a whole ninja class. A ninja who is more ninja than that monk sub-type.
What would it do exactly? I don't know. But I want it.
And why not? Warlord-ish things existed & now you have Nobles....

THe Noble needs a bit of a redo or update. It was not laid out very well.

No more gish we have plenty of them atm. A Scout would be nice as another martial type maybe.

Investigator can be done as a Rogue archetype for mine. No need for a whole new class.

A 'pet' class could be awesome. Akin to the summoner/ eidelon vibe in PF.

Obviously a martial controller. Something less fight-y than the PDK, but more controller-y and leader-y. Just the one iteration of extra attack, but more warlord/ marshal type class features. Auras, buffs, boosts and that kind of thing.

A magic item focussed PC. Alchemist/ artificer/ runesmith type. Buffs the party with potions and temporary magic items. Can make (DM dependant) permanent ones.

A Sorcerer archtype that doesnt instantly turn you into a scaled monster, or randomly have you becoming a pot plant. Think 'Arcana' bloodline. Something that a Mystaran could use..

Psionics. [Please capture some old school feel in there (I wanna see Ego whip, Id insinuation etc)]

A redone ranger. The class offers nothing past 5th level thats worth sticking around for.

A kensai/ weapon master archeype for the Monk. Variant martial arts that grant slightly different bonuses and abilities to 1st level Monks (reaction trip attack instead of bonus action attack, pin damage on a grapple instead of bonus damage attack etc)

A Wizard archetype that isnt a school specialist. Universalist type. Ignores magic resistance, and maybe gets a capstone at 14th of concentrating on two spells at once.

Off the top of my head.

I would love to see a well done Psion or Artificer as much as the next Eberron fan, but this being the season of Ravenloft, I feel the need to cast my vote for the Archivist. Easily my favorite 3.5 class, a knowledge-based support class definitely feels appropriate for the horror-themed monster hunting that will no doubt be occupying D&D tables for the coming months.

I really want to see an artificer/alchemist/crafting character, but don't do what is commonly done with potions per day or anything like that. You got to have the system reflect the fluff.

I'm not allowed to say. Talking about that class is restricted to a single forum here.

Ahhhhh....this says a lot about the big thread you started re: powergaming. Now I understand.

Anyway, in answer to the question in this thread, I think what I'd most like to see is something that could be described as a "Witch". Along the lines of a Warlock (and, yes, this could be done decently as a "The Hag" or "The Sisters" patron for Warlock), it would be a variant caster with a number of special abilities. Something relating to charms, curses, potions, divinations. And I know this would conflict with current design philosophy, but maybe something without any "blasting" cantrips (maybe Vicious Mockery or something analogous...save or take 1d4 necrotic damage and reduce saving throws for the next round by 1d4?).

"Witch-doctor" and "Shaman" are two semi-related concepts that I'd like to see. Not sure if all of the above can be encapsulated in one class.

A ninja is like a rogue but better in every way.

Sort of like how a katana is better in every way than a longsword.

Right?

RIGHT?!?!?!?!

I love the no-core classes and I defend the idea of "variant classes", a pack of optional class features to be showed like new classes. For example the gladiator from Dark Sun 2nd Ed would be a variant fighter class. It is a matter about marketing. Sourcebooks with new classes are sold better.

The psionic ardents are wonderful to create stories about hate-love relations with divine spellcasters.

I miss the martial adepts from "Tome of Magic: Book of nine swords". For me the swashbuckler should be a martial adept with ki maneuvers. I would like a elementalist with mysteries like the shadowdancer from 3.5 Tome of Magic.

Other wish is the nahualt, a totemtist warrior with shapeshifter powers, and maybe some game mechanic like the incarnum souldmelds.

For me assasin should be a variant class, not only a subclass.

My own idea for a class would be the cofrater ( = brother, or member of a brotherhood), a jedi-like psionic monk.

The classes need:

- Interesting background. (The incarnate and soulborn (from magic of incarnum) were too close to paladin

- Right balance of power, of course.

- Fun gameplay, interesting class features (I never wanted a psionic wilder because I din't like the physic enervation).
