What spells do you enjoy?

One spell I have never used, but which I liked from the start, is Gestalt, from BOEMII.

I needed to look that one up. (I found an informative review at AtFantasy.) For anyone else who doesn't have the Book of Eldritch Might II (from Monte Cook), Gestalt merges two creatures into one.

It sounds like Monte's book presents a few "flavorful" spells: Feedback, which deals damage if a specified action is taken; Legacy, an illusion that stores a programmed image of you triggered by a certain circumstance; and Animate Necrosis, which makes a target’s wound attack it.

Right now I'm enjoying Wail of Doom for my bard. The Grease slow combo is good. We've been running into annoying priests and Grease has been a party saving spell. Now that I've got 6th level Bard spells I look forward to Dirge and Repulsion. I think those will be highly enjoyible.

My one of my favorites is a good Mind Fog followed up by illusions.

My 2cp

I'm definately fond of any sort of Illusion magic. Any single spell that lets you, within various limits, do whatever you can imagine always gets a thumbs-up from me! ;)

As to 'just plain like it' spells it'd be a tie between Call Lightening and Flamestrike. There's just something about calling down the unbridled wrath of a storm, or a roaring column of Holy/Hell-fire (even if you're underground) that screams Magic to me.

From a DM's potential though I'd definately have to go with Wish or perhaps Miracle, just because I was looking forward to 'playing' with the intent vs wording aspect. I get this 'urge to be evil' every time I see the movie Bedazzled, it's just inspirational. Maybe I should make viewing that movie a requirement before I'll allow anyone access to the Wish-like magics... :D

Hatchling Dragon

i absolutely adore Combust out of the FR book... any spell that lights things on fire is rules!

i also love the soul suckers like Enervation, Energy Drain and VAMPIRIC TOUCH!!! :D

almost made vampiric touch a signature spell for one of my pcs.

Oriental Adventures presents quite a few "flavorful" spells:

Advice -- "These aren't the droids you're looking for."
Chameleon -- Predator nigh-invisibility
Cloud Chariot -- cool name, strategic, not tactical, transport
Dream Sight -- oddly Lovecraftian, perfect for shaman archetype
Detect/Force Shapechange -- just the kind of thing I expect spellcasters to do
Heart Ripper, Internal Fire -- how damage-dealing spells should work
Possess, Possess Animal -- necessary
Reanimation -- creepy not quite Raise Dead
Spirit Needle -- pin in spirit in the corporeal world
Surelife -- immune to any one cause of certain death (e.g. avalanche, boiling oil)
Transfix -- conditional Hold Person (unfortunately, the condition might be "for all eternity")
Weapon Bless -- a "buff" spell that makes the "buffer" feel like the hero

There is a spell I use from a Dragon magazine issue (I think), but I forget the name exactly... I havn't played a caster in a painfully long time... its sorta like a teleport, but it breaks you up into a swarm of creatures to do it.

Guys only spells you enjoy ! No power gaming here in this thread !! :)

Grease is a favorite of mine... its very practical offense or defense... can be funny too... the idea of putting grease in front of a charging enemy is great too... the bigger they are the harder they fall.

Another spell that comes to mind is Entangle. Briar Web would also be included in the Catch em ALL plant category aslo. Something about entangle that I love...

Call of Cthulhu d20 has some "flavorful" spells too:

Candle Communication -- speak from one candle to another
Cloud Memory -- "You will forget what you saw here."
Eyes of the Zombie -- you replace your eyes with the eyes of an animated corpse
Mirror of Tarkhun Atep -- send your image into the next mirror your target sees (causing Sanity loss)
Nightmare -- prevents sleep (and causes Sanity loss)
Pipes of Madness -- weird melody causes temporary insanity, Str damage
Snare Dreamer -- capture a dreaming soul
Soul Trap -- "flavorful" Speak With Dead
Steal Life -- every evil wizard needs this

Well, I admit I kinda like Innate Quickened Persistant Time Stop spells, but failing that...

I love Summon Monsters, particularly when you apply a Persistant Spell metamagic to them. They are very fun and versatile. Why bother with illusions when you can have the real thing?

U can't slap Persistant Spell on the Summon Monster Spells, it does not have a personal or fixed range. I was pretty dissapointed too when I first realized that. No more Elder Elementals as bodygaurds. Crap.

I too like soundburst, that will save for some creatures is a doozy. But I love bringing down the hammer in the form of a Flame Strike. Hehehehe. I love the smell of divinity in the morning...it smells like...victory.

Tata.
