What spells do you enjoy?

There is a spell I use from a Dragon magazine issue (I think), but I forget the name exactly... I havn't played a caster in a painfully long time... its sorta like a teleport, but it breaks you up into a swarm of creatures to do it.

That would be swarm form from the article "Polymorphology" in Dragon #280. I knew immediately which spell you meant...because I wrote that article. :)

Sound Burst is also one of my favorites. Very useful, and my death priest/necromancer calls it Screams of the Villagers, because it is the sound of all his fellow villagers dying in a flood when he was young.

Grease, also, because of its versatility. Again, my character calls it Blood Slick, because it's not grease, it's blood.

Spider Climb can be great. One time we were attacked on a dangling platform, which capsized - the other party members fell off, but my character stuck fast to the overturned platform with his spider feet. With this and web, all you need is Mary Jane to complete your Spiderman fantasies.

Sanctuary, too, is wonderful. It's great to sit back and not have to worry (much) about taking a pummeling from the orc whose wife you just animated as a zombie...

I love Enchantments and Transmutations, and some the level draining spells.

Bestow Curse is a good laugh, and has tons of RP scope.
Dominate and Charm are incredibly useful and great for RPing too.
Enervate is fun. Enervate enemy. Repeat a few times. Then, when he has a -10 to save, slap a Dominate on him. Hehe.
Feeblemind is hilarious, particularly because Headband of Intellect are not affected. It's much more fun mocking the wizard with an Int of 5 (+4 Headband) that mocking a dribbling idiot- and the ultimate capture spell (come with us, atone and tell us everything you know- then we'll heal you).
Otto's Irresistible Dance always cracks me up, because I get the mental image of elite fighters or elder dragons doing the cancan.

Mage Armor. Not that I enjoy it; rather that I don't enjoy not having it...

Fireball. It's cliché, but it's true it's always a great moment when your wizard cast her first fireball. You just feel... so much better after.

Invisibility. No need to comment why.

Flaming Sphere. It's a cool spell and it's fun to have that little ball roll and jump toward enemies.

Spell I hope I could enjoy one day, but that would mean for my wizard to resume play a bit:

Phantasmal Killer. I think you must feel a delicious evil chill when you kill someone with his worst nightmare.

Shadow Evocation/Shadow Conjuration. Just for the pleasure of choosing what you cast at the last minute, like if you were a sort of sorcerer.

Teleportation. At least, it's the spell I would enjoy the most to cast in real life if it were possible...

Confusion for wizards/sorcerers. Especially if you can do it over and over and over again.

For druids, Flame strike is a beauty and comes a level before clerics can get it. Entangle or spike stones to slow the bad guys down. My favorite combo, though, is Summon Nature's Ally followed by Animal Growth. Quite nice.

My druid has some jobs to do in RttToEE, so he uses Sun Beam and Flame Strike . Sun Beam is simply versatile, and Flame Strike should be used indoors only ;) . Transmute Rock to Mud is just nice in dungeons in combination with a Wall of Stone to seal the grave...

Outside of cities, buildings and dungeons, I'd love to use Creeping Doom, Briar Web and Kaichiri's Tree Transmutation (this researched spell transmutes one or more creatures into trees if they fail their saves :D ).

I forgot one of my favorite spells in the entire game: Awaken. It's a shame the entire concept of intelligent animals is filed away under a spell you might never notice and read.

Prestidigitation strikes me as the kind of spell on which you could base an entire "wizard's apprentice" campaign. Not much of a hack-n-slash spell though...

For my arcane dollar, Unseen Servant is just about one of my favorite wizard spells. 20 lbs of force, wherever you need it, for hours per day? Quite possibly the most useful 1st level spell you can imagine (for everything BUT combat, of course).

My favorite tactic is to cast it at the beginning of the adventure/module/dungeon level/whatever, and then use it for all sorts of useful random things as I progress through the dungeon.

20 lbs of force may not seem like a lot, but it can be a great substitute for all sorts of illusions and other magics. It can rattle bones down the hallway while the rogue uses the distraction to sneak up on some orcs on patrol, or push open a door while everyone hides safely behind cover. Though you can't drag much weight with it, you can pull your halfling friend to safety after he inevitably loses consciousness. It's also useful for recovering disarmed wands and weapons, regardless of who had the weapon to begin with.

You can even use it for certain attack-like activity in combat, provided your DM enjoys creativity more than very strict interpretations of the rules.

In general, that's my taste in magic: Spells that can do many useful things along a particular theme.

I don't have that Dragon, so I only know the spell from Tsyr's description (in another thread, a long time ago), but I have to say, that is a very cool spell, Johnathan (Richards).
