Land Womb

I've been handing out spells from BoEM I & II and Magic of Faerun as rewards. The players don't have these books so they love getting new spells they have never heard of. I give them the new spells but don't tell the other players about them. So when the new spell is cast, the caster gets a big wow-factor.

The coolest so far is Land Womb from Magic of Faerun. It is a druid spell that opens up a pocket in the earth that swallows the caster and touched creatures. The pocket holds them their for 10 minutes/level. Our druid used it to avoid arrest by the city militia. He and his dwarf companion snuck out the window of their house and the druid just wrapped his arms around the dwarf and cast the spell. The player of the dwarf freaked out! They waited 90 minutes and when they came out, the soldiers were gone.

I personally like horrid wilting to torture PCs with. Unless you happen to be in an anti-magic field, or something similar, you're going to be hit by it, and protection from elements won't help you. I had NPCs use it on them so much that when MgoF came out and they learned of the Spellblade property, they ALL had their weapons enhanced with it to protect them from horrid wilting. Now I'm thinking Evard's black tentacles sounds good....:D

As a transmuter, i can't beat spectral hand for total utility. I can stand a hundred feet back and deliver offensive, defensive, healing and buff spells. Vampiric touch is great this way, cuz the caster isn't in any danger.

permanent image, programmed image, poly any object. I don't need to spend xp to get neat goodies.

Permanent image phase spider, at will on call magical beastie that will appear out of the ether to spook people.

Programmed image a fire elemental to distract and scare opponents.

Poly any object, lost of things, particularly in a dragonstar, shadowrun or technomancer world where mundane items can be powerful. ("he turned car keys into a car!").

Wow. Can't believe nobody's mentioned my favorite spell yet:

hastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehastehaste

What's not to love? :D

well i personally like, From Magic of Faerun, Igazreas (SP!) Miazma and Combust, even though my DM thinks they are CHEAP and he loves magic missle which is by far more "cheap". i also like the Entangle -> Flameing Sphere combo, toast em and leave them burning in a firey tomb of web.

Mage armor and Shield are GREAT spells, along with Expedious Retreat, specially for chasing after those people with Run feat.

I hate the damage spells like Fireball / Lightning bolt etc.
I DESPISE spells that cause instant death IE: Desintigrate, Death, Power word kill, Destruction....
Play a character for 5 months or longer only to be killed by a dumb spell

Modify Memory has to be one of the coolest spells ever.

Evard's Black tentacles and enervation are also both more interesting than simply blowing something up, and very effective.

The Planar Ally line of spells is also rather nice.

Fire Seeds is cool. Write the villain's name on the acorn, then when you throw the fire seed, you can say "This one's got your name on it!" as the target finds itself on the wrong end of a 15d8 fire attack with no save and a chance to critical.

Foresight and Clairaudience/Clairvoyance are both really neat.

Illusions are also fun. It's nice how simple it is use a first level spell to make walls appear. 4th level effect, 1st level spell.

Project image is also a fun trick, as is spinning. :)
