What system of magic do you use?

The only real tweak I'd need to make to be satisfied with 4e magic is to make rituals free to learn (though not necessarily easy to acquire), and to let you use 'mana' if you don't have ritual components. Like if you've gone on a pilgrimage and visited a sacred volcano, perhaps you'd gain the ability to cast X gp worth of fire-related rituals once per week, by drawing on the mountain's mana.
