what the heck is "dual strike"?

If you're in a game that uses Action Points (like, say Eberron!) and you have the Action Surge feat, you can spend an action point to gain an extra move or standard action, so you could, for instance, make a charge (with one attack) and then spend an AP and make a Dual Strike.

Me heart Action Points! :)

I still don't quite understand. I've read the two weapon fighting entry in the PHB several times, and it seems to refer that you can fight two handed normally (without your extra attacks) as a standard action it is very vague. "You get one extra attack in the round when using two weapon fighting."

Pg 140 says that "A character who can make more than one attack per round must use the full attack action in order to get more than one attack."

Does two weapon fighting fall under this rule and you have to use it as a full attack action?

Yes. If you want to attack more than once in a round (apart from things like AoOs), you need to:

1) Use the Full-Attack Action
2) Use a special feat that sidesteps #1

Manyshot is an example of #2, as is Dual Strike.

Simple two-weapon fighting requires #1.

Dual Strike feat in Complete Adventurer

Hi Guys,

Just thought i'd join the Dual Strike debate...

Surely If you take Dual Strike AND Spring Attack you can do this:

a). Move before and after the attack as a MOVE ACTION (Spring Attack)

AND

b). Attack once with both your primary and off hands as a standard Action (DUAL STRIKE)

If you didn't have Dual Strike you could only attack ONCE as an Attack Action (ie. a Standard Action) with Spring Attack

In effect, this feat combo is virtually identical to "Two Weapon Spring Attack" which is the Tempest PrC 5th Level ability, the only difference is that you must take a -6 total penalty to-hit with Dual Strike (-2 to hit from two weapon fighting with the Feat and a light weapon (see p.160 of PHB) and -4 to hit for the Dual Strike penalty (also with a light off hand weapon)), whereas you would only take the standard -2 to hit if you had "Two Weapon Spring Attack", oh and also you roll one die for both attacks instead of the normal two dice for "Two Weapon Spring Attack".

What are everyone's thoughts on this...?

No, you can't do that. Spring Attack allows you to move up to your speed and take an attack action sometime during the move. Dual Strike is a standard action, not an attack action. Hence, Dual Strike and Spring Attack cannot be combined.

Or at least it kinda works like Manyshot and I can't recall a Multishot feat in D&D at the moment.

Maybe in the Diablo 2 supplement. :D

But it's more likely a class ability of the Amazon there. ;)

alex2020, you're making a common mistake.

Spring Attack: "When using the attack action with a melee weapon, you can move both before and after the attack (...)".

Dual Strike: "As a standard action, you can make a melee attack with your primary weapon and your off-hand weapon (...)".

Spring Attack only allows the "attack action", which is a type of standard action. Dual Strike is its own standard action, it is not the "attack action".

Same reason why Shot On The Run and Manyshot don't add up.

So the 3.5 Tempast's ability is still unique.

Actually, you attack with a -4 penalty, not a -6 penalty.
