What the *scratches head* Tiefling, Eladrin...

Sadrik

First Post
How the hell do you pronounce these?

Tiefling:
I have always said, "Teef-ling" like a 3 year old saying "teeth" with a "ling" thrown on the end. I just heard someone say "Tie-fling" like the "tie" fighter had a "fling". So which is it?

Eladrin:
Is it "El-ah-drin", "El-aye-drin", "El-uh-drin" or "El-a-drin" ("a" like apple). Then to make it all worse is it similar to "Aladdin" (Elad-rin) or is it El-adrin like "El Adrenal".

:uhoh:  :uhoh:

Tiefling is a made up word, I believe, but it is based on good old Germanic roots. You would be pronouncing it correctly by using a Germanic reading, which you are doing.

Eladrin is thoroughly made up, I believe, so you could pronounce it "tu-dth-fay-ree" and be correct.

I pronouce them teef-ling and... Eladrin is like your aladdin example :) Though, I don't think that pronounciation is that far off from your other one, "El-a-drin".

I have to go with "Teef-ling" and "Eh-lad-rihn", with the first two syllables running together but distinct in a way.

I agree with 'Ten' and Nick, I don't think that planewalker.com is the authority on pronounciation no matter how much they want to be ;)

I hadn't heard eladrin before, but I can confirm wotc definitely pronounced it as given.

I've always said/heard 'teaf-ling' though it runs a bit together so it may not sound different than 'tea-fling'

Given how? I mean which of the options do the wotc bunch use- cos I am actually interested, humour aside? And how do you know? Are you a member of the occult? A spy? :)

Considering that those files were made by the Planescape devs, yes, those are canonical.
