What the...

This is all really good feedback. Something I am coming to realize (being that I made the original post), is that its based more on the game you want to run than on whether the feats are out of balanced. Of course the feats are out of balanced if every encounter ends up with a wizard breaking out his high damage spells. In that game, sudden maximized anything will appear broken.

I think I am planning to house rule the UA rules. So someone tell me what they think of this idea:

In my campagin, all wizards, must be specialist wizards. You may use a meta-magic feat per the UA rules (i.e. not preparing them ahead of time) for your specialty school. All other schools of magic require that you prepare them per the PHB. Using a meta-magic feat without preparing it in such a way is a full-round action.

There will be no change for sorcerers since they can largely do this already. Any thoughts on this?

Question, What do you do with Sudden Quicken? What requiremnts does it have in your game?
He's talking about using the Spontaneous Metamagic (uses per day) variant from UA, which is what I use too, instead of the Sudden feats from Complete Arcane. So there's no Sudden Quicken. Instead, someone with Quicken spell can apply it spontaneously 3/day to any spell of a level = their highest level slot - 4.
