What they should have done at DDXP

I did not attend DDXP unfortunately, but I am surprised they didn't do something like this...

As I understand it, they ran a module (or two) with first level characters each day of D&DXP. Shouldn't they have maybe ran higher level adventures as the weekend went on? Friday would be a lvl 1 adventure to get people used to the rules and such, Sat a level 10 or 15 adventure, and then Sunday a level 30 epic adventure (while still continuing to offer 1st level adventures for those coming late to the show). This way, we would have a better idea of how high level plays out.

I assume they didn't do that because they would have to reveal a LOT more stuff (powers, feats, etc.). But still, would have been nice. And maybe it would have stopped some of the "All I did was used the same power over and over again" because you'd have access to more options at later levels, and people would have been able to experience that.

Anyway, just a thought :) Carry on...

I expect the main reason they did not do this was not as much to keep stuff secret before release but rather because it would require too much explanation of rules for people to play a higher level character for their first time at the convention, and it would be too hard to run the adventure without easy access to the full set of rules by the DM and players.

Right. That's the main reason...

Something I would have loved to see is to have them take a person at random from a crowd and ask them to come up with a character concept for a paragon-level character. And then they would make that character in front of an audience, doing it quickly and tossing out interesting terms to make us speculate as to what they mean.

They should have shown more from the game than just combat.
Character creation, rituals, power/ability usage out of combat, skill usage besides the escape sequence where we didn't really got any insight on what skills can do now, etc.

The way DDXP is set up there are slots that the mods fill with no guarantee of which order you play them in. A high level mod would run at the same time as the lvl 1 mods were running. You had a more cohesive experience with everyone using the same 6 lvl 1 characters for the delve and the two mods and a better reveal of the mechanics. Winter Fantasy in 2000 had a similar thing for 3E. June 6th is coming soon enough to get a full review.
