What to buy?

Qin, $25.00 at Amazon, qualifies for free shipping by itself, gorgeous, gorgeous art, and I've been reading posts about the mechanics are great. Its likely to be my next purchase. Plus it leaves you $25.00 to buy other stuff.

It just isn't WOTC.

Do you have the Dragon Compendium? It's pretty interesting and a departure from the WotC stuff, and it is 100% official. You might really enjoy it.

ToB and scoundrel both seem a little too outside the core for most of the groups I play with. Styles and stances and tricks and...most of my grumpy DMs hate new mechanics :(
It's usually easier to get forgiveness than permission, but DMs are a big exception to that rule.

Talk to your DMs. Tell them about your QuickieDoodad and what you're thinking of doing with it. Say that there are a couple of books that you're really interested in, but you don't want to waste the money if they're not going to be useful, then just ask what they think.

As some ppl said, maybe some inspirational reading.

If you have not read them yet, the books by Steven Erikson (Gardens of the Moon etc.) are (IMnsHO) THE best fantasy novels to pass along in the last two centuries or so...

I couldn't agree more. Seriously, best fantasy series ever.

Buy as many of these as you can afford. The first 5 or so are out in paperback. You will be glad you did, and you will have reading material for a long time (they are hefty).

Well, if you're at all a time travel fan, I can suggest Temporality which clocks in at just over $25. Of course, you can't go wrong with new/more minis too.

I couldn't agree less. Bought the pdf and thought the mechanics were unusable, the flavor uninteresting. And $26+?? Get the pdf if you are curious...but don't be curious.

Dungeon Tiles are sweet. They look really nice, they're durable, they're modular, and they are reasonably portable (you can put a whole bunch of them in one of those big zip-lock bags, for example).

If you like the tactical elements of the game but hate drawing maps, Dungeon Tiles are a very worthwhile investment ($10 each set = !!!).

Thanks for the advise again all. I just wanted to pipe in and address some posts.

Spell Compendium, check-got it.

Dragon Compendium, not on my list, neither is the item compendium.

Qin? No clue what you're talking about here, and google goes nuts when I type that in and hit search. Sounds asian, so not what my groups are in to.

Dungeonscape is looking thinner and thinner the more reports I read. It has gone from what's that, to OMG ROXXORZ, to meh.

All the reading fiction is great, but I really don't have time to read a novel or somesuch anymore. I'm not a reading-hater, I love to read, but reading comes after internets and TV for me (paying for cable), and I don't have time to watch TV. Maybe some day when I'm old and retired like...

I hate time travel, personally.

I am a veteran DM, but as a player have grumpy DMs (aren't they all?).

I still really don't see why I'd need or even want dungeon tiles... I got a wipee map and markers. Can you mark on dungeon tiles...are they just posters or are they wipee?

Thanks again to everyone for running down the not-so-crappy current prodiuct list for me!
