What to get for a broke gamer?

I don't own it, but from what I understand, the DMG 2 is a good book for someone learning to be a (better) GM.

...
Dungeon or Dragon subscriptions are nice too

I'd second both of those. I got a buddy of mine with DM aspirations the DMG2 for his birthday. And you can't beat a gift that repeats 12 times a year.

i'll second BattleBox, DMG II, Grim Tales, and Gift Certificate. Along with Dice, Dice Bags, and assorted gaming "stuff".

I like gift certificates, though some people seem to think they're a cop out.

I like money just as much, though. Two twenties and a card is a nice thing to behold when you're broke.

I'd look at the products which were nominated/won Ennies this year. They're all really good products, but a basic D&D player is less likely to have many of them.

Or for frequent supplements, what about a subscription to Dungeon or Dragon?

BigFreekinGoblinoid and Xath: Darn, I wish I had thought of that like a month ago! Her birthday is tomorrow. I mean, I know I can order the subscription online, but it's so nice to have an actual physical present on one's birthday. :(

The suggestion of dice made me smile - she is something of a dice addict and can't seem to leave a game store without buying at least one new die. I'm not sure I need to feed that particular habit. :uhoh:

The BattleBox is a great idea, but I had loads of trouble finding mine; GamesPlus was out at the time (that was 2 or 3 weeks ago) and the company was waiting for a new printing. Anyone know if that is still the case?

You could always go buy an issue or two of whatever one you want to give the subscription to, wrap 'em up, and stick a card with the subscription info in it.

I know what you mean. I would go to your FLGS or bookstore and buy and issue and then tell her that she will be getting 12 more! If you want to get her Dragon or Dungeon or both then I would do it this way.

I don't know if the battlebox is hard to find but I cannot recommend Fiery Dragon enough. I think there products are great. Oh and you get a little tiny 20-sider with the box which could also feed the dice habit.
