what to replace dragonborn breath and eladrin fey step?

I'd like to remove dragonborn breath and eladrin fey step as 1st level inclusions for those races (and instead make them paragon feat options which the races could take).

I'd like to replace them with less magical racial benefits (akin to the dwarven 'second wind as a minor', the elf 're-roll an attack' and the halfling 'make attacker re-roll'.

Has anyone got some neat ideas that would fit thematically?

Eladrin: May reroll any trained skill check once per try, if he doesn't like the result?

For the Dragonborn at least, I would look at the various dragon classes from 3e to find something that you can translate into 4e.

That's not bad actually. I might try that one.

Or let the Eladrin pick a cantrip instead. For the Dragonborn, maybe a weakened version of Frightful Presence, close burst 2, +5 vs. Will, enemies are -2 to attack rolls.

I think I'll allow Eladrin to pick a wizard cantrip as an encounter power. That won't step on the half-elf schtick, but does make them a naturally 'magical' people without being too overt about it. Being able to use 'mage hand' or 'light' or one of the others once a day is rather appealing.

That's not very attractive for an Eladrin Wizard, and the same goes for the suggested wizard cantrip...
