what type of "fantasy" campaign do you play?

interesting. there are much more "non-standard" (based on my above definition) fantasy campaigns than i first expected.

myself, i normally "standard" (fr, greyhawk, birthright) campaigns, although i would love to try a "non-standard". at this moment, i can't really say i have a preference, since i only really have experience "non-standard" campaigns, but i would probably jump at the chance to play in a "non-standard" campaign.

i must say that there are some very good campaign ideas here.

My homebrew campaign setting is a mix between Vampire: Dark Ages, Diablo, and a bit of classic sword and sorcery.

I love it.

Have you read China Mieville's Bas-Lag novels {Perdido and The Scar}? Might find some useful stuff in them.

I usually run a pretty non-standard game. My current world is inspired by the pulp tradition, everything from Dumas through Doyle/Burroughs to Doc Savage. Duelists, dinosaurs, lost cities, lost civilzations. With a layer of F. Scott Fitzgerald floating over top. So everyone, including barbarians, have a penchant for witty observations and the resident fallen angel is an affable, well dressed man with a taste for gin.

This book had the absolute worst timing for me. I'd already written my own future timeline and then Transhuman Space got published. I almost cried.

I mean, I would have written my own version anyway, but a lot of the research I did was already in the book, and I could have saved myself somewhere around a month's worth of work.
 

Carnifex, you're going to announce here when that's published, right? Typically I don't like to buy very long books on PDF 'cause they're a pain to read, but this is one I just might take up because I'm really interested in the premise.
 

Oddly enough, I run a fairly *standard* campaign. I'm running in the Scarred Lands setting, and it's one of your basic 'powerful artifact - save the world' games. Although calling it basic does it great disservice, IMHO. I've got politics, assassinations, countries going to war, tangled fates, and all sorts of other elements cobbled together to form something more complex.

I ran Planescape for seven years or so, and wanted something traditional as a change of pace.

:D That's me; my attention span tends to wander. When I've done one type of game for a long time, I'm ready for something else.

Certainly will do. Now that I've got the introduction to the book properly written, which I can use as a kinda 'blurb' for it, I think I'll talk to Horacio about getting an 'official' announcement about it sometime soon. On the other hand, he may want top wait unitil it's well into the editing/art stage befoer that, but I could post the blurb on this thread anyway I guess :)

In terms of length, I guess it's currently looking at about 96 pages... covers a *lot* of stuff though, and once I've revised the vehicles section (ironclads, trains, mole machines, dirigibles etc) it might be longer...
 

Pretty standard fantasy. I generally put my flavor-variation efforts into the story and plots, rather than into developing highly variant setting.
