I voted "method actor", although I see myself as a mix of "method actor" with "tactician". Or, perhaps better, "method actor" that, in combat situations, becomes a "tactician" which places characterization as one of the components of the scenario.

I enjoy playing with all kinds of player, although I think there is a low limit of how many "power gamers" and "butt-kickers" can stay in the same party. Also, some "power gamers" can really take the fun of the game if are not placed in check by strong DMs.

I voted other since I really don't see myself fitting into any of the categories. I'm more than a casual gamer, but far from a method actor. I'm not a power gamer, on occasion after a rough week I might be a butt-kicker. I could be a tactician, if that meant finding new and creative solutions to problems. I could also be classified as a specialist since I enjoy playing wizards, and often do, but ususally because nobody else in my group wants to play one.

I'm something of a variable specialist -- I don't always play the same type of character, but I do have a few particular archetypes that I tend to stick with.

Catfolk? Guilty.

Warrior-mage / Jedi / psychic warror? Guilty.

Ranger? Guilty.

I'm definatly a storyteller, but wait you could also call me a method actor. And ever so often I become a tactician. But a power gamer or a butt-kicker I am not (I got video games for that)

buttkicker.

and that's it. none of the other styles comes even close.

Robin's description of the buttkicker describes exactly why i play RPGs.

Robin's Laws of Good Game Mastering lists seven types of gamers. Which one fits your style of playing best?

It was really tough to pick one and I think part of it is that the descriptions are so unflattering. So I thought about what I enjoyed best about gaming and decided on storyteller, though I do tend to play similar character types like a specialist would. I also think it depends a lot on the DM style, too. In one game I'm more of an method actor because I am really into the character I'm playing and the DM is very story-focused. In another game, because it's pretty much a high-fantasy-monster-bash, I discovered I had a little more fun when I played a character that was a little less, um, cerebral. :D
