What was your 1st RPG and what was your favourite campaign about or best memory?

The first TTRPG I ever played was Earthdawn (first edition) and it ruled; the GM let me play twins.

But my favorite memory of the game didn't involve me at all, exactly; it was when we all realized that the guy playing the troll had forgotten to buy pants for the character and so he was walking around town drawing considerably more attention even than he normally would have.

First and still is D&D.

First adventure we all died. I recall a gate dropping down and splitting the party with gnolls coming and killing half of us and then the other half.

I think the best memory was when I ran the Under Illifarn campaign back in 86/87 when it came out. I remember adding several side quests to the main campaign and a lot of additional material. I do not think the PCs ever made it to the final dwarven ruins.

Holmes Basic D&D, but we played it as part of a school-sponsored gifted education program, so it was more a tool for teaching teamwork and creative problem solving rather than being used to run a campaign in the traditional sense.

My first RPG was Tunnels and Trolls. I honestly don't remember it as a "campaign", just some dungeon delving without any coherence.

The most vivid memory I have is thus: After narrowly avoiding a trap designed to shove the party into an adjacent pool of tar, what amounts to a tar-elemental heaved itself out of the pool and came at us. I recall proudly shouting, "Oil!" as my character hucked a torch at the monster... and the party nearly dying in the resulting conflagration of petrochemical goo.

HeroQuest the board game actually. It is like training wheel for D&D and RPGs. Though, we learned all the basics and it wouldnt be long before we knew the board and mechanical limits of HQ wouldnt do anymore. Though, as a kid it was my gateway into RPGs.

My first was definitely OD&D; a lot of really good early games I was involved in were in Champions or RuneQuest, but my memory is such that specifics are long gone (these were likely 40 or more years ago). The favority campaign I ran was a hybrid Mekton II/Cyberpunk 2020 game that was a post-apocalyptic setting where the PCs were members of a high tech enclave long after a nuclear war.

OD&D White Box back in 1976.
I was 13 and a lad (Dave) from the year above had the game and ran a dungeon for myself and my mate, Phil.
I played a fighter called Aelric and Phil played Amroth, a wizard. We ended up getting killed by orcs, but that sense of wonder, fear, adventure and exploration (all rolled into one) has never left me.
I’m 62 now, but part of me is still Aelric.

Cheers Dave, wherever you are now. I’ll always be grateful.
