What Will D&D4 Mean to the Enworld Boards?

ENWorld will be here whatever the current D&D incarnation.

Let's face it, minutes after 4e hits the shelves there will be posts from people house ruling it, posts from people who don't understand what they are reading and posts from people who want to know what everyone else thinks.
Then there will be posts from people who say they prefer 3.5, and those who think 4e is the greatest thing since squirty cheese.

In other words: same, same.

I think the rules forum will be a lot more exciting for a while. There's only so many new rules problems that come up in 3e anymore, they've all been talked about to death. Now we have a chance to get some new discussion out there:)

It means that I'm back.

How's that? Isn't it amazing enough? Doesn't the whole world turn around me? Color me surprised :D

Seriously now, I think most people will discute of 4e, but irreductible fans of 3e, 2e, 1e and non D&D (True20, C&C, M&M, Conan, Iron Heroes...) will be as well regarded and as at home as now. At least I hope it :)

Yeah, well here's something that most of you don't realize...

Morrus (and Michael Morris) have secretly been working on EN World 2.0.

I hear the new version of EN World is going to make EN World 1.0 obsolete. They are going to MAKE you switch to 2.0. When asked about 2.0, they keep giving vague denials like "oh, I've been busy so I haven't had time to work on it" and what not. But mark my words, they ARE working on it and once they switch there will be NO SUPPORT for 1.0.

That's not the worst part... I heard the ENWorld 2.0 is going to have a significant online component! *gasp* The horror!

Hey, careful with that rumormongering! Stuff like that may just make us go Old Skool - and make EN World 2.0 a Post Office box where you can send letters (handwritten only, in crayon, please) to your pen pal, Eric Noah.

Aha! I knew you were being influenced by those damn Post Office MMRPGs!

I recall thinking about July 2000 that finally, once August 2000 hit and 3E was finally released, the traffic would die down.

Nope. It exploded. Much to my amazement and delight. Same thing's gonna happen.

Eric, how many members did we have back in 2000, when you first started out? Just curious :)

cheers,

As an aside, we have over 65,000 registered members here on ENW right now, and I'm not sure how many active members. Hell, the pages are slow to load because there are over 2200 members signed in right now!

When you say "explode" EN, what kinda digits are you thinking? An average of 3000 - 3500 users online for the first couple of months after 4e hits?

cheers,
