Libris Mortis rocks on toast.

When it comes to general utility, XPH is just the bomb. Monsters, spells, gods, races, classes, feats, skills, magic items, oh, and the whole psionics thing.

I can't even imagine using undead now without Libris Mortis. Or making an undead slayer. It just seems so... odd.

When in doubt, go with the monster books. You can always find something useful in there.

I voted XPH with honourable mentions to Libris Mortis and Fiend Folio (IMO, FF is superior to both MMII [heck, anything is superior to this masterpiece of bad design and bad art] and MMIII but YMMV).

Oh, fine. I'd go with Monster Manual 2 or 3. Probably 3, just because it's already 3.5 and doesn't require conversion.
