Trees, lots of trees. Some gnome homes are hidden between the roots and inside hollow trees. It's actually quite impossible to tell you're inside a village, as all is masterfully hidden, by druidic magic, illusions, or craftmanship.
Foxes, and fox holes. Foxes are the number 1 friends of gnomes IMC, rather than badger -- small, cute, and with a reputation of cunning, fits better than small, cute, and with a reputation of frenzied ferocity. But that's just me.
For gnome villages that are not disguised to look like wilderness, various illusions. A rich mansion may have its windows shielded by illusions so that people from the outside can't spy inside, seeing instead the landscape of a faraway land. (From the inside, the view is unaffected.) Underground passageways, as much as streets -- they can ask animals to dig for them, low-light vision rocks, and it's better than a street during harsh weather conditions.
Orchards and berrybushes.
